What's Happening

February 21, 2008
Information session to be held at the Ramsay Community Association (1136 8 Street SE from 6:30pm-8:30pm) to examine the Ramsay Exchange Outline Plan & Land Use Re-designation Application currently under review by The City of Calgary. Representatives from The City, Ramsay Community Association, Torode and their consultants will be available to answer any questions. Please come out and show your support for this exciting project.

Torode is pleased to welcome Caffe Rosso, a new tenant, to Ramsay Exchange. Described as Ramsay’s hidden gem by FFWD Magazine, Caffe Rosso is sure to please even the toughest coffee critic and also serves a variety of freshly baked goods. Caffe Rosso is open daily (6am-6pm weekdays and 8am-5pm weekends) and is tucked away off of 24th Avenue – watch for the red sandwich boards at the parking lot entrance.

Headplay + Conversion Works have now begun tenant fixturing in the historic Dominion Bridge building and Torode looks forward to their opening in Spring 2008.

The installation of over 150 new windows is officially underway in the Dominion Bridge building. Along the north elevation, the second level is first to receive the new windows.

As the holiday season is upon us, construction surges on at the Dominion Bridge building. The masonry trades are working hard to complete the restoration of the north elevation of the building for the upcoming window installation. To view photos of the space, please click here.

Torode presents the Ramsay Exchange project to the Alberta Association of Canadian Institute of Planners (AACIP) September Luncheon. The event drew a large number of Planners and other professionals interested in the redevelopment of Calgary’s inner city.

Torode Commercial Ltd. is pleased to announce a partnership with imagineCALGARY, a collaborative community visioning process that has produced The Long Range Sustainability Plan for Calgary. This plan establishes a framework for complete communities with corresponding goals, targets and strategies for implementation. Through this partnership, Torode is committed to the future sustainability of the City and will act on imagineCALGARY’s targets. Torode has effectively aligned the principles of the Ramsay Exchange project with the targets and goals of imagineCALGARY. Progress is well underway on the renovation of the historic Dominion Bridge building, with expected tenancy of local entertainment company, Headplay + Conversion Works, to occupy the space in the New Year. With interior sandblasting of the building complete, work on the exterior windows is expected to commence shortly. To view ‘in-progress’ photos of the space, please click here.

As part of Historic Calgary Week, the Chinook Country Historical Society presents a free tour of the historic Dominion Bridge building with Lorne Simpson, a local architect noted in the area of heritage conservation. The tour begins at 7:00 pm at the Dominion Bridge building. For more information contact the Chinook Country Historical Society at 403.261.4667.
